How it Works

The Hoop Skirt™ is designed to hold back excess fabric when you are embroidering on a small t-shirt or baby onesie using a single needle embroidery machine. It is designed to fit with many differnent embroidery hoop. Before beginning – make sure that you have the correct Hoop Skirt™ for your the embroidery hoop you are using.

Start with a baby onesie or small t-shirt. Turn onesie inside out. Fuse a piece of fusible poly mesh (larger than the size of the design you are stitching out) to inside of the onesie. Then locate the intended center of the design.

Prepare your embroidery hoop
Hoop a piece of sticky back stabilizer. Score around the inside edge of the hoop with a pin and peel away the top paper. Draw horizontal and vertical lines through the center of the hoop on the exposed sticky stabilizer. — Prepare your embroidery hoop by hooping

Fold the onesie

Smooth out the onesie

Insert the hoop skirt
Insert the hoop skirt through the bottom opening of the onesie — Insert the Hoop Skirt™ through the bottom opening of the onesie

Press The Hoop Skirt™ into the hoop – snapping it into place.

Push the excess fabric out of the way and secure behind the lips of The Hoop Skirt™. Tighten the embroidery hoop to hold The Hoop Skirt™ in place.

Slide the embroidery hoop underneath the presser foot – then snap the hoop in place.

Begin stitching out your embroidery design

Pop out the hoop skirt and tear the onesie away from the hooped tearaway. You are done!

Please note: using The Hoop Skirt™ diminishes the size of your maximum embroidery area by 1/2” in the horizontal direction. Always check your stitch area before beginning to embroider.

What is the Hoop Skirt?

The Hoop Skirt is a fabric management accessory for machine embroidery. It gathers and secures excess fabric away from your embroidery area, helping prevent accidental stitching while making bulky or difficult projects much easier to manage.

What types of projects can I use it with?

The Hoop Skirt™ is perfect for embroidering garments with small openings like baby t-shirts and onesies. However, it could also be used on leggings or other items where the desired area of embroidery is difficult to access.

Does it interfere with my machine while it’s stitching?

No. Just keep in mind that The Hoop Skirt™ reduces your embroidery field by about 1/2″ so always preview your stitch area before starting.

Will it prevent me from accidentally embroidering the back of a shirt?

While no accessory can eliminate every mistake, the Hoop Skirt™ greatly reduces the risk by keeping loose fabric gathered securely away from the embroidery field.
